How to Calculate an Average

The average, also called the arithmetic mean, is calculated by adding all the numbers together and dividing the result by the number of values.

Average = Sum of all numbers ÷ Number of values

For example, if you have the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50, first add them together:

10 + 20 + 30 + 40 + 50 = 150

There are five numbers, so:

150 ÷ 5 = 30

Therefore, the average is 30.
